Don’t you ever think about what it’s like to be in an orchestra for a day? Or when’s the next performance? Well now you’ll know we now have an Inside scoop from students and teachers. Get updates on all the latest news on orchestra and what practices are like.

Student Interviews

Filx Thomson plays the cello, and is in the IMS orchestra. He enjoys playing his instrument because it makes him joyful. The reason he likes orchestra is because its fun, he enjoys it, and lastly he loves all the types of music they get to play! When Felix plays, he feels a spark of joy.

Meera mishra  is a violinist. She enjoys playing because it makes her feel a whole range of feelings. She likes orchestra because she thinks it’s fun and enjoyable. Meera likes how the orchestra sounds as a group.

Meera is a great violinist, that’s why she got a solo!! (At the Haunt cert)

Vivian Cheshire is a violinist. She doesn’t enjoy playing her violin because  “No, I have many other things and it’s too heavy to carry to school and then back home every single day!!” Her favorite thing about orchestra is the performances. When Vivian plays her instrument she feels “lazy”(not my words hers)

Staff Interviews

Mrs Hart is the main conductor of the IMS orchestra. Mrs Harts’ other hobbies include reading, cooking, binge watchingTV,taking walks, yoga, and live music. She can play five different instruments. Violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano. Mrs Hart has been playing since she was 10 years old!

She also spends a lot of time with her 5 children. Mrs Hart takes her job very seriously. That’s why she loves her job as much as we love playing our instruments.

Practice time

When we get to class we find our seat and get our instrument out. Then when Mrs Hart comes out we warm up by doing scales. Then we get out our book and sometimes we learn new notes. After that we start on our concert music. We make some changes and play some more.  Sometimes she lets us make our own little song things. It’s super fun and reading music makes you smarter! Since orchestra is a class we get tested and gets grades. But our test are different we play short songs. She looks at your posited and if you got the notes right and lots more. When you get the hang of it you start to love it and feeling the beat. When you put your heart into it’s truly magical!
