House Speaker Ousted Out

Kevin McCarthy, former Republican Speaker of The House of Representatives was ousted from his position on Tuesday, Oct. 3

The question many Americans are asking is how it happened and what will happen next. The vote to remove MacCarthy was proposed by Rep. Matt Gaetz. After MacCarthy struck a deal with some of the Hard Right Members of his party, to avoid a government shutdown, but it was not very helpful for many people. Later, when meeting with President Biden he proposed a deal much beneficial for everyone. Doing this angered those Hard Right Republicans, they thought that McCarthy was backing out from one of his promises of what he would do as speaker. So then the vote was called and it was a 216-210 vote that ended his speakership.

The House is currently in recess but a vote has been scheduled for October 11. But it may take a while to find someone that can be supported by the majority of the House. The current temporary speaker is Patrick McHenry of North Carolina. Some candidates running for speaker are: Jim Jordan of Ohio and Steve Scaliese of Louisiana. Right now all we can hope is that someone is elected quickly so once the short term spending bill expires they will have a good idea on what to do.
